What’s involved in a Kickboxing Class?
Conan’s Academy has over 100 different types of boxing programs. You can learn something different every time you come in. An example of a normal class is:
- Jump rope or do light sprints to warm-up
- Perform plyometric training. Plyometrics are exercises that utilize explosive movements using the lower body. These movements will build stronger legs, assist with ring movement and increase cardiovascular function.
- Practice offensive and defensive boxing techniques. You will learn kicking and punching techniques by using heavy bags, focus pads, reflex bags etc.
- 15 minutes of abdominal work. This workout will not only tone the stomach but also strengthen the back.
Kickboxing workouts are anaerobic by design and are called “interval training.” This means that workouts can consist of 30 second intervals which are performed in 1, 2 and 3 minute rounds with with anywhere from 15 second to a one-minute rest in between.
Workouts are designed so that each person can work at their own pace until he/she can work up to a group pace. The program is also designed to adjust for recreational or competitive training.
Kickboxing Sparring Training
In sparring you get in the ring and put together what you’ve learned. Initially you will start with body sparring, move to jab sparring and finally, all out kicking and punching. All beginning sparring will be supervised. Sparring is optional for recreational students.
